If you are working on your landscaping, you know how much work and time this takes. Because of this, you want the landscaping to look beautiful when you are finished. One way you can do this is by using mulch. Mulch not only makes the landscaping look much better but offers you many benefits as well. If you plan to use a lot of mulch, you can have it delivered to your home to make things much easier for you. Keep reading to learn of different types of mulch you can choose from, and the different ways you can use it.

Types of Mulch

One common type of mulch used is organic mulch. This refers to using formerly living materials, such as shaved or chopped wood chips, shredded bark, grass clippings, chopped leaves, and straw. Inorganic mulches can also be used, such as landscape fabric or black plastic. You can also use a combination of organic and inorganic mulches for your yard.

If you choose wood mulch you have a variety of colors to choose from, such as light brown to almost black. You do have to consider that dark colors attract the sun so black may not be a good choice for your gardens.

Ways to Use Mulch

One way to use mulch is in flower gardens. This makes flower gardens look much neater as mulch prevents weeds and grass from growing in the garden. This not only saves you a lot of time but can save you money as well. This is because mulch blocks the sun for the weeds to grow. You won't have to replace dead flowers that can die from a lot of weeds growing around them. Mulch helps hold in moisture for the flowers, so you won't have to water as much.

If you have bushes in front of your home place mulch here also. It can make the area look much nicer. Consider laying landscape fabric over the area first, and then putting a few inches of mulch over the fabric. This is especially beneficial if you are dealing with a lot of weeds growing around your bushes. You can also put mulch around trees in your yard. This is beneficial if tree roots are visible as the mulch will hide these roots.

If you need help, contact a landscape contractor as they can tell you the best type of mulch to use and more ways you can use it for your landscaping.

About Me
hardscaping areas that won't grow grass easily

I live in an area that is very difficult to grow grass. If I was to water my lawn a couple of times each day, the grass may grow, but that would cost me a small fortune in water bills and waste a lot of water that could be used for more efficient purposes. Instead of fighting the grass to grow, I decided to embrace the dryness of the area and complete the landscape design using mostly hardscape materials. I used rocks of all sizes coupled with wood to create a yard that I love to spend time in and am very proud of. Find out how to use nothing more than hardscape materials to finish your property.
