If you do not like your landscaping and would like to renovate it, this can get costly. If you are on a set budget, however, there are many things you can do. When you are finished, you will have beautiful landscaping that you can be proud of.

Add Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting does not have to be expensive. Adding only a small amount can make a big difference at night. You could add lighting to trees in your yard. There are solar lights that do not require any electricity. This not only saves you money on the lighting but also does not increase your electrical bill.

You could install a few uplights to showcase a tree, a water fountain, a statue, and more. There are downlights that shine downward. If you have a patio, put lighting around it. In many cases, you can do these things without contacting an electrician. A landscape contractor, however, can help you add beautiful lighting to your landscaping.

Create a Pathway

Creating a pathway does not have to be expensive, and you can do this on your own. You could use a gravel pathway, mulch a pathway, or use small garden rocks. If you have a little money, you could hire a contractor to install a concrete pathway.

If you want to install the pathway yourself, you first need to determine where to place it. You then have to dig the grass or any other debris from the area so you are only left with dirt. Use string and stakes to map out the pathway. The pathway should be dug deep enough so that you can put gravel rocks on it. This will allow for good drainage. You can then lay landscape fabric over the garden rocks and put the path material you choose over the fabric.

Plant Flowers

Using flowers is one of the least expensive ways to renovate landscaping. You could build a flower garden and put a variety of flowers in it. Put an edging around the flower garden to prevent weeds and grass from growing in it. There is cheap metal edging that you can purchase for this, or you can use repurposed wood around the flower garden. Use mulch in the flower garden to help save on water. Mulch prevents runoff and keeps the flower garden watered longer.

There are annual flowers that are inexpensive and already blooming when you purchase them. Plant some annuals in front of your home or put some in beautiful containers. Petunias, marigolds, geraniums, zinnias, vincas, and begonias are all easy to care for annuals.

A landscaping contractor can give you many more tips on landscaping on a budget.

About Me
hardscaping areas that won't grow grass easily

I live in an area that is very difficult to grow grass. If I was to water my lawn a couple of times each day, the grass may grow, but that would cost me a small fortune in water bills and waste a lot of water that could be used for more efficient purposes. Instead of fighting the grass to grow, I decided to embrace the dryness of the area and complete the landscape design using mostly hardscape materials. I used rocks of all sizes coupled with wood to create a yard that I love to spend time in and am very proud of. Find out how to use nothing more than hardscape materials to finish your property.
